David has been a partner in AKITT, SWANSON + PEARCE ARCHITECTS INC. since 1989, and a managing principal since 1993. He began his career with the firm of John G. Williams, Architect and was involved in the urban design and planning of numerous public and private sector projects, public processes, and municipal policy planning initiatives.
Since starting with AKITT, SWANSON + PEARCE ARCHITECTS INC. in 1980 David has been responsible for the successful design, documentation, and construction administration of more than 18 million sq ft of completed work. His projects range in size from 10,000 sq ft to 700,000 sq ft, and within construction budgets ranging from $0.5M through to $140M.
David’s primary focus has been work in the private sector and includes corporate, commercial, retail, industrial, laboratory and high tech projects. His clients include: Redcliff Realty Group; Bentall Retail Services; Royal Bank; RIM; Microsoft Canada; Hewlett Packard; Spar Aerospace, Husky Injection Moldings; Adidas; CTV/Bell Globemedia; the Weather Network; Ryerson University; and U of Waterloo.
He is highly regarded for his work in the design of suburban office buildings, both speculative office developments and corporate office facilities. Examples of these can be found in numerous locations around the GTA.
David is well versed in urban planning, interior architecture, new build construction and renovation projects. He is responsible for the successful design and planning of the large scale Centre Mall and Eagles Landing projects, and the recently completed RAC buildings at U Waterloo. David has been instrumental in the design and development of the new ‘Metro’ banner being applied to former A&P, Dominion and the Barn Food stores across Ontario.
David is an exceptionally talented designer, project manager and business manager. He has an extensive technical knowledge which informs his design process ensuring high standards of design excellence within a framework of practicality, appropriate construction methodologies and client service.
David is a LEED accredited professional, and under his direction and leadership, AKITT, SWANSON + PEARCE ARCHITECTS INC. has become a leader in sustainable building design.
