head office design proposal

| type: design proposal, unrealized | size: 80,000 sq ft, 3 storeys |
AS+P was one of several architectural firms shortlisted to provide a proposal including a concept design for Kenaidan’s new head office in Mississauga. The new facility is to house 60,000 sq ft of office on 3 floors within a unique and highly identifiable building that showcases the company’s culture and construction expertise.
Based on a very preliminary program, AS+P prepared a number of concept schemes exploring different massing and location options for the proposed building within the site.
One scheme organized the upper 2 storeys of offices as 2 glass ‘bars’ set on top of a more solid freeform ground floor. The’ bars’ converge towards the front façade and expand outwards at the rear to engage the expansive views over the adjacent parkland/green space. The gap between these ‘bars’ forms a central sky-lit atrium space that is open to all 3 floors of office space and connect the various spaces within the building.
The design would feature exposed concrete structure in the interior and is intended to target LEED Silver, incorporating a series of green roofs at various levels. The proposed building would be clad largely in curtain wall in a contemporary mullion/glazing pattern, and exposed poured concrete walls at grade. It includes a basement level with underground parking, training rooms, and fitness area. A lunch room/cafeteria located at the rear opens onto an outdoor patio, with views to the adjacent green space and access to a green roof located on the roof.
