Completed in 2006, this facility was OMRON’s 3rd project in Oakville’s Winston Business Park, and the 2nd designed by AS+P.
OMRON manufactures relays, switches and electronic control units (ECUs) for the automotive industry.
An established leader in environmental stewardship, OMRON was committed to constructing this new facility in accordance with the LEED-Canada green building initiatives.
The 95,000 sq ft manufacturing and office complex became one of the first LEED Certified industrial buildings in Canada, and the first to achieve a SILVER level of certification.
Notable environmental features include:
- high performance building envelope
- triple glazed argon filled windows
- energy efficient lighting with daylight strategies and occupancy sensors
- programmed and monitored HVAC equipment
- heat recovery
- low flow fixtures and waterless urinals
- native, low water landscaping
- dust and contaminant control
The facility reduced energy consumption by 37% and water consumption by 45%. During construction, 75% of the waste was recycled, building materials contained 28% recycled material and 27% of the materials were produced locally.
